Abstract Wave energy converters (WEC) have been researched extensively to harvest large amounts of untapped ocean renewable energy. Floating-type point absorbers are a type WEC that converts the wave electrical energy, by utilizing relative motion multi-body system mainly consisting floating section and reaction section. The design floating-type is not straightforward needs special attention understand dynamics system, power take-off (PTO) mechanism placed in purpose this study develop numerical simulation tool which can help various aid practical PTO systems. represented using spring-damper theoretical modelling mean absorbed presented. developed Orcaflex carried out on demonstration model show usefulness tool. heave displacement shows effect damping response WEC. It found maximization possible for specific sea state. Furthermore, results potential use other concepts.
